SUN CITY, AZ - Sun City Fire Department is now equipped to do even more to save the lives of dogs and cats.

Five Fido Bags funded by Farmers Insurance include oxygen masks of varying sizes to fit dogs and cats, burn blankets, a leash, gloves, a water bowl, burn cream and a DVD for training how to treat an animal that has been involved in a fire.
The Fetch Foundation, which produced the lifesaving bags, began in 2009 with the mission to equip every fire truck in the country with Fido Bags.
“I think it’s a good resource for all of us to use. Almost everyone in the department has an animal at home so we know how much the pets mean to everyone,” said Sun City Fire Department engineer Sandy Young. “The oxygen masks we have now are not the same size for dogs and cats. The ones in the Fido Bags are just right. I know Glendale fire was able to rescue a dog in a fire recently and use the mask.”
Marie Peck, who started the nonprofit Fetch Foundation, said she wants to give animals every chance of being saved.
Peck said that some animals might not be the friendliest when they are hurt and that the training DVDs will help firefighters know what to do.
Farmers Insurance stepped in on funding the bags for Sun City. The bags cost about $150 each.
